What Name Are You Calling Him Today?

God has many names.

If you have ever done any study on the names of God, you’ll note that each name has a different meaning–many attributes and promises of the one and only God we worship.

EL ELOAH: God “mighty, strong, prominent” (Genesis 7:1; Isaiah 9:6)

ELOHIM: God “Creator, Mighty and Strong” (Genesis 17:7; Jeremiah 31:33)

EL SHADDAI: “God Almighty,” “The Mighty One of Jacob” (Genesis 49:24; Psalm 132:2, 5)

ADONAI: “Lord” (Genesis 15:2; Judges 6:15)

YHWH / YAHWEH / JEHOVAH: “LORD” (Deuteronomy 6:4; Daniel 9:14)

JEHOVAH-JIREH: “The Lord Will Provide” (Genesis 22:14)

JEHOVAH-RAPHA: “The Lord Who Heals” (Exodus 15:26)

JEHOVAH-SABAOTH: “The Lord of Hosts” (Isaiah 1:24; Psalm 46:7)

EL ELYON: “Most High” (Deuteronomy 26:19)

EL ROI: “God of Seeing” (Genesis 16:13)

EL OLAM: “Everlasting God” (Psalm 90:1-3)

EL GIBHOR: “Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6)

More explanation on the names of God.

These names denote power, holiness, and the Ultimate, Divine Heavenly Father for all humankind.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the names of God lately. I’ve been praying His names, addressing him for who he is and what he’s promised.

Reconsider Your Level of Influence

Those of us who use social media sites because of our professional life can get a tad…focused…on numbers.

Number of page hits. Number of followers. Number of friend requests. Number of comments or contest entrants or subscribers.

Numbers mean a lot when you are trying to “brand” and build a base.

While I realize that many of you have been on Twitter forever and have far surpassed my measly following, I was excited when I hit 500 followers on Twitter.

To my husband I said, “Guess what? I hit 500 on Twitter! Awesome, huh?”

“Yeah,” he replied. “That’s more people than will be in the service at church tomorrow.”

It was one of those moments–you know the kind–when words become physical and hit you in the face.

“That’s a lot of influence you have.”

Truth.

How real is the accountability that comes with being a follower of Christ and having an influence, no matter how significant or insignificant we believe it to be.

What we say, what we Tweet– we have a choice. Will it be uplifting? Will it be positive? Will it be encouraging? Will it be a light of truth in a world of darkness?

No matter how many “followers” or “friends” or “subscribers” or co-workers, or friends, or classmates, or family members you have, you have influence.

Are you using your influence in a way that is enlightening, bringing joy to others?

Most of all, are you using your influence to point people to Him?

Share with me: In what ways do purposefully attempt to use social media in positive ways? In your everyday life, do you have something you do to try to be purposefully influential for Him?

I’m Tired of Giving

I give. I give and give and give and give.

I give of Time. Money. Ability. Friendship. Experience. Talents. Food. Help. Love.

I give until I think there’s going to be nothing left.

Sometimes I don’t feel like I get anything back.

I see others, others who appear to give far less than I, who seem to get so much more.

They get Time. Money. Ability. Friendship. Experience. Talent. Food. Help. Love.

I give. They get.

I’m tired. I pout. I decide life isn’t fair.

I question why I give and give and give and give, and get nothing.

And He speaks.

My child, you give because I have commanded you. I, who have Given all.

Just once, I’d like to be a getter, too.

Then I hear these words, human words from the mouth of the shepherd of our flock.

“Your level and capacity to love is a reflection of the Spirit working in your life.”

I am rebuked. I am repentant.

I am refocused. I am renewed.

Spirit work. Spirit move. Spirit pour out, so that I may give as He gave.

For I am reminded that in him, I have received Everything.
